Here we are with Day 59 of Anadrasata's adventures.  This episode has taken longer than usual to get up for which I apologise.  Part of the reason for that was that when I was writing this, I got ahead of myself and wrote several pages of events that belong in Day 60.  So, then I had to go back and write things that actually belong on Day 59.

This piece runs to 2,982 words and I hope that you enjoy it.

Dear Journal,

Thankfully today is not another day of rest. When Nais brought me up my warm water this morning she told me that there is some friction between the servants from "traditional" Confederation households and "Imperialised" households below stairs over how things should be organised and handled - specifically rest day also known as the day after tomorrow. There is, it seems, a school of thought which says that the family should go down to the scullery to fetch their own warm water for washing in first thing in the morning. The prevailing school of thought, led by the housekeeper and Cook, says that the family should not be trailing through the kitchen and into the scullery in their night attire in order to wash their faces. Cook had added that she did not need a mob of hungry schoolboys loose in her kitchen among her supplies first thing in the morning, particularly when she has the leftovers from a large, important dinner on hand. The mob of hungry schoolboys seems to include all my unmarried male cousins, and possibly Tekatl Umetlalliyaotl - Cook has been with the family since shortly after Cousin Ghrus and Cousin Poktlilui married.

Daily Happiness

1. Finally after all week feeling like each day should be Friday, it's really Friday!

2. Today actually wasn't too bad at work and wasn't a long day. Though I didn't end up getting to everything I wanted to get done, so I had to push a lot of things till Monday. They're not urgent things, so it's fine, but I feel like Monday is going to end up with a lot of things, especially since I have a meeting in the afternoon. But so far I have nothing scheduled for Tuesday or Wednesday, so hopefully one or the other can be a catch up day if I need it.

3. This is an irresistible spot for cats. A canvas bag on top of a plastic bin, which is itself on top of a pile of other bags, on top of a blanket, on top of a chest. Plus it's got a nice view of the sidewalk!

This is the third year they've had an official Pride Nite at Disneyland. With only two dates each year, it's on a smaller scale than most of the other events, but still a lot of fun and I just love being there at the park when almost everyone (even many of the cast members working that night) is queer.

The Coles County Community Garden is across the parking lot from the Charleston Food Forest. It's not the kind where you rent a bed and grow what you want. It's tended by the community and anyone can come pick things to try.

I meant to put this picture prompt up for litha/summer solstice but it was a day early this year. Oops. Still it’s lovely

Got another 942 words on the last Yahtzee story. I really need to pick up the pace. That should be now since I’m wide awake after a spider crawled up my leg as I worked on this post!

Let me know what day you’re reporting in for. If I've missed you on the tally let me know. Feel free to jump in at any time.

We made this tonight. It was delicious! We used some of the pretzel bread that we got at the Marshall Farmer's Market.

Unexpected Gift

My younger cousins are part managers of a new restaurant in our area and mom and I went there for lunch. (It was good) and they gave me a birthday card with a gift card (for some online liquor shop fine wine and good spirits) we don't do gifts so I was surprised. Here's me googling can you mail booze to OH (you cannot to PA)

I messed up. I thought yesterday was my posting day on [community profile] unconventionalcourtship but I looked a few days ago and I SWORE it said the 21st. Guess what. It was yesterday. SIGH. I posted chapter one now. You can find it here. I'm pretty proud of this one.

Title: Dandelions

Summary: Even though Angel is still under Valentino’s thumb, he has secretly signed on as Charlie Morningstar’s man, a protector, a faithful friend, whatever she needs and what she needs now is his help to find out who is stalking her (even if she thinks she can handle it herself)
Husker is more concerned with his casinos and clubs and his wild parties than he is with whatever reason Valentino wants him to take his best porn star to bed. He assumes Valentino is trying to get him in his debt but Husker prefers his lovers to have some brains, something - if the rumors are true – Angel Dust is lacking. But when he is being framed for trying to kill the Princess of Hell, Husker throws his lot in with Angel and the rest of Charlie’s people to clear his name.

senmut: A painted picture of Bones McCoy (Star Trek: Bones McCoy)
1991, and I was very much settled into my Gaming Group. Apparently I was managing to go to the theater more, as I opened 22 tabs, after skipping at least a dozen less memorable offerings. Hmm, gotta narrow this down. 12? Twelve is doable.

~ Toy Soldiers - Teenage rebellion against a hostage situation. Honestly loved the acting here.
~ Hudson Hawk - What is NOT to love about music-timed heists and Bruce Willis playing off Danny Aiello?
~ Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves - Honestly, when I rewatched this, I found it enjoyable but very much not definitive. Still, great cast.

~ The Rocketeer - Fun. Pure Fun. Also, watching the guys realize that was SARAH from Labyrinth amused the hell out of me.
~ Terminator 2: Judgment Day - +grits teeth+ Cameron knows how to make a sequel equal or better than the previous entry. Linda Hamilton is who sold me on this movie though.
~ Point Break - Before Brian and Dom got their hooks into me for Fed and Crook, these two... damn. Love them.

~ Showdown in Little Tokyo - ALL the warnings for this, especially violence against women. However. Brandon Lee and Dolph Lundgren offer up a great partnership, even as the yakuza and Japanese 'culture' references that frame the movie are... Hollywood to extreme.
~ The Addams Family - AWW YEAH, first limo event! LOL. K was driving for one of the local mafia and had use of the limo when it wasn't hired. Pack of 16-29 year old geeks rolling out to see this icon in a limo. Great times.
~ My Girl - So y'all remember when family friendly movies didn't shy away from handling death? Yeah. Completely unspoilered for this, and P ended up sobbing all over me.

~ Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country - Limo excursion. Some of us in ST uniform. I was at 90+ hours conscious, which made it an interesting experience.
~ Father of the Bride - As remakes go, this one rocked it. And I still love to watch it AND the sequel.
~ Fried Green Tomatoes - First entry in Mary Louise Parker is queer and breaks my heart. Also, if you have only seen the film, do yourself a favor and read the book too. They complement one another.

Brendon nearly stumbled as he hurried toward the side path. Nervously, he tugged at the hem of his tangerine orange polo shirt as he swallowed, trying to dampen the rasping dry cavern of his mouth. His watch chirped, but he didn’t spare a flicker of his gaze away from the smooth white sidewalk.

As he turned the last bend before the bathrooms, he froze.

A dark-haired woman lay on the ground, alone.

Today is cloudy and muggy.

I fed the birds.  I've seen a mixed flock of sparrows and house finches.  I also saw a male cardinal and a squirrel up in the trees.

I put out water for the birds.

EDIT 6/20/25 -- I did a bit of work around the patio.

EDIT 6/20/25 -- I watered the new picnic table garden.  I picked the first 'Chocolate Sprinkles' tomato and several 'Toscana' strawberries.  I love the Toscanas and will definitely buy more if I see them next spring.

Bodies!

Jun. 20th, 2025 08:33 pm[personal profile] cosmolinguist

Happy Nystagmus Awareness Day. I wrote a kind of FAQ about nystagmus a while ago.

I had to explain the basics of what nystagmus is to the assessor who did my PIP assessment the other day. (They used to at least tell you they were a physio or a nurse or whatever, now they don't even bother letting on how unqualified they are to be assessing your particular condition.)

Oh speaking of, I got a phone call today, from an 800 number I'd been ignoring for a few days because it never left a message or anything. I mostly answered it by accident today. And it turned out to be from Maximus or whichever shitty entity the DWP have outsourced their assessments to in my region, saying they need more information from me so now I have to talk to them on the phone on Monday! Ugh. I've never had this happen before.

Got a text this morning saying that I need to book a blood test before I get more meds too. Ugh! More needles and more lectures about being fat. Not a fun day for admin relating to having a body!

Kirk vs Kirk (ft. Pride)

anghraine: kirk standing in front of a pile of books in "court martial," his face slightly turned and pleased; text: "stack of books with legs" (the description of him from the pilot) (kirk [stack of books])
I tragically can't find the post again, but a few days ago, I ran over one of the most perfect AOS Kirk vs TOS Kirk summations I've seen on Tumblr, re: Pride. I'm extemporizing because I don't remember the phrasing at all, but the overall tenor was:

Okay, the difference between them is not that one Kirk is bi and the other isn't, they are both extremely bi. But if AOS Kirk was at Pride, he'd be wearing a slutty crop top while in the actual parade, and goes out drinking to the local gay bar after it's over. TOS Kirk supportively goes to the parade, gets a headache an hour in, and leaves to watch an all-male Shakespeare in the Park production of Hamlet.

And truly, I'm not sure I've read a better analysis to date :P
